William Marshal Festival

On the 800th anniversary of the death of one of history's most significant figures, we will be celebrating the life of William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke and the Greatest Knight of the Middle Ages.

Activities and events will include:

  • The unveiling of a unique tapestry created for display in Pembroke Castle depicting the extraordinary life and achievements of Earl Marshal.   This will take place at 11:00am on Tuesday 28th May. 
  • A brand new exhibition highlighting the significant locations where the Marshal influence was felt, from the tournament fields to the creation of the Magna Carta.  
  • An author talk from leading Marshal biographer Thomas Asbridge, authour of the bestselling 'The Greatest Knight'.  Please note that this is a ticketed event.  
  • A floral tribute to Earl Marshal, placed in various locations around the castle grounds.
  • Marshal focused free to attend guided tours throughout the week.
  • Historical re-enactments and family fun activities such as regular castle favourites, Knight School, Falconry Displays, Keepers of the Castle and Dragon Days.
